One of Altitude’s all time favorite bands the Deftones hit the stage at Smokeout and they shocked their fans in the crowd by opening the set with a brand new track. The song is called “Rocket Skates” and true Deftones fans will not be disappointed. You can check it out here:

SMOKEOUT 09- UNCENSORED and ILLEGAL! The stuff we shouldn’t show you at SMOKEOUT..But we will

Now in addition to all the great music at Smokeout there was plenty of other shenanigans going on in and outside the venue. We sent Jayme Foxx out there to get all the craziness just for you. Here is it, the good, the bad…..and the ugly!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Cypress Hill’s SMOKEOUT FESTIVAL 09 Wrapup

It was long overdue but Cypress Hill and Guerilla Union brought their Smokeout Festival back to Southern California after a 6 year absence and needless to say the lineup they put together may go down as the best in the franchise’s history. Mixing a collection of hip hop icons, rocks most ferocious acts, and can’t miss reunions, the Smokeout was blazing from top to bottom both days….literally! Check out our host Jayme Foxx with backstage interviews and great live performances from SUBLIME, SLIPKNOT, CYPRESS HILL, DEFTONES, PENNYWISE, and more right here.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

YEAH YEAH YEAHS - “Gold Lion”

One of the biggest highlights of Austin City Limits was definitely the very energetic performance by female fronted band, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  A true show stopper that Karen O is!  She’s electric!  Just check out this performance of “Gold Lion” to see what we’re talking about!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WHITE LIES - “E.S.T.”

We were convinced that this band was going to be the next big thing and maybe just because that hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean that they won’t!  They’ve got a similar sound to Interpol, Editors, and The Bravery, but believe it or not, these guys are barely old enough to sit at a bar!  With a sound that is beyond their years, here are the White Lies with a track off their debut album “To Lose My Life.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

THE VIRGINS - “Hey Hey Girl”

Don’t let the band’s name fool you, these guys take the stage like they’ve been doing it their whole lives.  (Horrible joke) Alright, so the band only got their start 2 years ago, but obviously Atlantic Records felt that same amount of confidence as us since they signed this band before they even had a drummer.  With the way the record industry is struggling right, you know this band must be good!  The Virgins currently have a self titled LP out and here’s a track off it, performed live, called “Hey Hey Girl”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

PHOENIX - “Lisztomania”

Phoenix put on, hands down, one of the best shows of the entire festival!  Check this out and get to know one of the most under rated bands in the scene!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

PASSION PIT - “I’ve Got Your Number”

Here are some familiar faces to Rock On Altitude…Not only did they perform at our exclusive Lollapalooza After Party in Chicago but now they’re make their triumphant return to our channel with their latest performance at Austin City Limits.  Check it out!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

MUTE MATH - “Noticed”

This Grammy nominated band comes back onto the scene with the release of their much anticipated album “Armistice.”  Trouble is, we’re not sure how long this band will stick together.  Rumor on the street is that these boys just can’t seem to get along and putting together their latest disc was like pulling teeth.  But you know what, they never made pulling teeth sound so good!  Here’s Mute Math with their long overdue return on the ACL stage performing a gem off their first, self-titled LP entitled “Noticed.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

KINGS OF LEON - “Molly Chambers”

Kings of Leon just can’t stay off those festival stages, now can they?  But we can’t blame the band, they’re one of the biggest rocks acts on the planet and everyone wants to get their opportunity to see them perform live.  And heck, you gotta give the people what they want! Right? Well, here they are with their return to our festival coverage performing “Molly Chambers” live at ACL!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

GRIZZLY BEAR - “I Live With You”

They’re certainly one of the most talked about indie bands of 2009 with buzz ranging from their magical peformance in a church at SXSW to releasing their critically acclaimed album “Veckatimest.”  It’s been a very strong year for these guys and it’s not shocking to see that Grizzly Bear had one of the biggest turn outs at this year’s festival.  Here’s a snippet of what you may have missed…

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

GIRL TALK - “Move Bitch” (Ludacris) Mash Up

The scientist of the DJ circuit and the King of mash ups shows the ACL crowd that spinning isn’t just about playing records rather, it’s a true art form.  Try to find a DJ that can incorporate a more eclectic mix of artists in a shorter period of time than this guy.  He definitely brought a unique experience to the very wet Austin crowd.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

FLOGGIN MOLLY - “Drunken Lullabies”

Irish influenced punk rock without drinking Guinness?  Impossible! Well, at least according to Flogging Molly.  If you aren’t drinking, you aren’t playing and if you can’t finish your beer, you can’t stop playing.  Well, that’s how it used to be for this band that hails from Boston. You can’t really blame them for toning things down a smidge so they could bring their music to the masses at ACL but we guarantee that anytime this band plays they bring out the Irish in everyone.  Here they are with “Drunken Lullabies.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

THE DEAD WEATHER - “You Just Can’t Win” a cover of the song by THEM

Jack White’s latest side project, The Dead Weather, gave us a real treat at Austin City Limits!  Now, just seeing this band live is a treat, but getting thrown a cover Them’s song “You Just Can’t Win” in the voice of Jack White and backed by the vocals of Alison Mosshart…we’re still speechless!  THIS is a MUST SEE!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND - “So Damn Lucky”

Here’s a band that could have single handedly drawn the same amount of people to to their own show as to that of Austin City Limits.  They’re a powerhouse that truly bring back that same live appeal to that of the Grateful Dead.  No joke, people will drive thousands of miles and spend money the they don’t have just so they can experience what this band brings to the table.  It’s a phenomenon in this day and age and we’re excited to share this clip of them performing ”So Damn Lucky” at ACL.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

COHEED AND CAMBRIA - “No World For Tomorrow”

Prog rock at it’s finest:  20 minute guitar solos, non-existent stage banter, and of course, the inability to define when a song starts and ends (at least to the untrained ear).  Coheed and Cambria, who’s played practically every festival in the past 5 years, comfortably takes the stage at ACL to play “No World For Tomorrow”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

CLUTCH - “Struck Down”

Stoner Rock mixed with Blues sneaks it’s way into the festival circuit as Clutch takes the stage to promote their new album “Strange Cousins from the West.”  It’s the griddy rock that we’ve come to expect from these guys and just what Austin City Limits needed to stay eclectic.  Here they are performing one of their new tracks “Struck Down.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

BEN HARPER & THE RELENTLESS 7 - “Boots Like These”

Check out this highly emotional track coming off Ben Harper’s latest disc “White Lies for Dark Times” performed live at ACL.  If you’re a die hard fan, we bet this is probably one of your newest favorites…for the first time listeners, be prepared to spend some money, you’re gonna want to get your paws on this album after watching this clip.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

THE B-52’s - “Love Shack”

So what if these guys and gals are, what, in their 50’s? And so what if you’ve heard this song so many times that you know every word and not by choice… This song is an obvious classic and despite their age, they’re still rockin it like no other!  Bare witness by clicking the box below

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

ARCTIC MONKEYS - “View From the Afternoon”

Did you guys know that these guys just released a new album called “Humbug” that was produced by Queens of the Stone Age frontman, Josh Homme?  Maybe you did know that and perhaps you’ve even seen the music video for their first single “Crying Lightning” on your Rock On Altitude cell phone application…If you haven’t… we’ll just say that you’re missing out big time and you should probably get on that right away.  Check out this clip of them performing one of their older songs, “The View From the Afternoon” off their debut disc “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” to get a little taste of the Arctic Monkeys if you haven’t already

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT - “Sometime Around Midnight”

Here’s a band that has done the impossible!  They actually released a song that hit mainstream radio without even having a chorus!  We’re still scratching our heads over that one… but here’s Airborne Toxic Event with their single “Sometime Around Midnight” being performed live at ACL.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

PEARL JAM - “NOT FOR YOU”

Not only did Pearl Jam’s latest album ”Backspacer” hit #1 on the Billboard charts, but these Seattle rockers were responsible for closing out one of the biggest festivals of the year!  Nice to see that 90s grunge is still making an impact on the rock scene!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS WRAP UP

If you weren’t one of the thousands of people that made it out to this year’s installment of ACL, don’t kick yourself, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a break down of all the madness that ensued including live performances from the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Kings of Leon and much, much more!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

LOLLAPALOOZA WRAP UP 2009
Even a huge downpour on opening day and record high humidity on Saturday and Sunday couldn’t dampen the spirits of the crowds that flooded Chicago for Lollapalooza weekend. Boasting the best 3 day musical lineup of 2009, the crowd was treated to the most eclectic round of acts in recent years. From the Lollapalooza originators (Janes Addiction), to last minute headliners (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), to the biggest rock band of the moment (Kings of Leon), this festival had it all. Other acts turning in amazing sets were TV ON THE RADIO, THE KILLERS, RISE AGAINST, COLD WAR KIDS, and the crowd favorite of the entire weekend, SNOOP DOGG! Check out our wrapup of the massive 3 day event right here:

 THE KILLERS - “BONES” LIVE AT LOLLAPALOOZA

As Lollapalooza came to an end Sunday night, there needed to be a band to headline the Chicago 2016 Stage and end the best weekend in music on a high note. At Lollapalooza 2009, that band was The Killers. Performing a massive 16-song setlist, The Killers were one of the cant-miss shows of the weekend. Check out their performance of “Bones”, only on Altitude!

YEAH YEAH YEAHS - “ZERO”, LIVE AT LOLLAPALOOZA 2009

When we first heard the Beastie Boys unfortunately had to cancel their show at this years Lollapalooza, we were really bummed out. Could any band be able to headline the Budweiser Stage on Saturday and be able to maintain a Beastie-level energy in their performance?? Luckily, there are the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who replaced the Beastie Boys and definitely delivered a great set. Check out Altitude’s video of their latest single, “Zero”, live at Lollapalooza ‘09!

JANES ADDICTION - “MOUNTAIN SONG” AT LOLLAPALOOZA ‘09

If there is one person that defines what Lollapalooza is, it is Perry Farrell. He founded the original Lollapalooza back in 1991 and is still headlining along with his band, Janes Addiction, to this day. This was probably the number-one show that other bands wanted to see, and Perry and the gang still have the great stage presence and energy they had almost 20 years ago. Check out Janes Addiction performing “Mountain Song”, live at Lolla!!!

TV ON THE RADIO - “WRONG WAY”, FROM LOLLAPALOOZA 2009

One of our favorite acts that we saw Saturday was TV On The Radio. These guys made the Budweiser Stage the place everyone needed to be during their high-energy, fun, live 11-song set. They performed some of their biggest hits (Wolf Like Me, Staring At The Sun), but our favorite performance of theirs was definitely “Wrong Way”. Check it out, only on Altitude!

SILVERSUN PICKUPS - “PANIC SWITCH” LOLLAPALOOZA 2009 PERFORMANCE

We always love to see a local band make it big, so we were really excited when we heard that Los Angeles’ own Silversun Pickups were headlining the Vitamin Water Stage on Sunday. They put on a great show, complete with their massive hit “Panic Switch”. Check it out for yourself, only on Altitude!!

KINGS OF LEON - “SEX ON FIRE”, LIVE AT LOLLAPALOOZA 2009

ARCTIC MONKEYS - “MY PROPELLER” LIVE LOLLAPALOOZA 2009
